Cowboy - Adopted February 2010

A COWBOY’S STORY

Thanks to APAWS, it’s another happy “tail.”

Our happy family, who included our beloved female tuxedo cat Lucy, was on the lookout for a companion friend when we happened upon petfinder.com and saw an adorable male tuxedo kitten who had been found with a litter in a boat yard, hungry and weak. Although we were considering a dog to adopt, this kitten just melted our hearts. So, we drove out from Lafayette to Baton Rouge to meet the little fellow in person. As soon as we spotted him with his siblings in a cage, it wasn’t hard to pick him out. He was very friendly and stole our hearts. One day later, we had “Peppo” in our home, introduced him to our nine year old Lucy, and she was as curious about him as he was about her. He was a bundle of energy and not afraid to jump up high on the bed, even though he was only six weeks old! We could tell he was a rough and tumble kind of boy. It was becoming apparent that we needed to give him a name that fit. And two days later, Peppo became COWBOY. He wanted to jump on Lucy’s back like she was a horse, and didn’t back down from her height advantage. It’s funny how things turned out. We wanted a dog, and Cowboy is the most dog-like cat we have ever seen. He chewed my slippers, dog bones, and even the coffee table! He also fetches and knows how to open doors. But now that Cowboy is out of his “puppy phase,” he is the best cat ever. He is well behaved with his baths; he loves to play on his new pet tree and is always looking out of the window when I come home from work. He is rough and tumble in play, but sweet and loves to lie in the bed and purr next to me. Funny how things turned out; we wanted a dog, but got another cat, who acts like a dog…named Cowboy – and trust me, the name fits!!!
