Mina - Adopted May 2012

I can't believe it's been 6 months already! Mina has blended into our family perfectly! We are enjoying her personality so much. So glad we found her. Loving her more and more each day.

Chloe - Adopted May 2012

Chloe is doing great!  She is my baby and loves to play with the kids.  I can't imagine my life without her:).  She even dressed up with the kids for Halloween.

Buster - Adopted September 2011

Buster has been such a joy to have in our household.  I couldn't imagine my life without him.  He sleeps under the covers with us every night (he even knows how to tuck himself in).  After doing a DNA test, we found out that he is 50% Bullmastiff and 50% American Bulldog.  In the fall of last year, Buster was diagnosed with canine Masticatory Muscle Myositis (MMM).  It is an inflammatory disease that affects the chewing muscles.  The immune system recognizes special fibers found in the jaw as foreign to the body and attacks them.  The vet started him on steroids to correct the problem.  In July, he received his final dose of steroids.  They want us to keep a close eye on it to make sure it doesn't come back, but since then he has been healthy as can be.  At his last vet appointment, he tipped the scales at 87 pounds, but I fear he is not quite done growing.  I am attaching some pictures of Buster and one with his sister, Isabelle.  He celebrated his first birthday this summer, so we had a little party for him.  I even made him a dog friendly birthday cake (carrot cake with peanut butter icing).  He didn't like the birthday hat I made him wear, but he tolerated it long enough for me to get a picture.  I am also including some pictures of him opening his APAWS christmas stocking from last year (he's about 7 months at the time).  He has recently started sleeping the closet of our computer room, I guess he likes the peace and quiet.  So he is not in time out in that picture, he just likes to hang out in there. He is a bizarre little dog, and I love him for it.

Nala (AKA Padme) - Adopted June 2012

Nala is her new name and she is doing just fine -- It only took her about 3/4 days to get used to Max and now they have a great time together.    I am thoroughly enjoying her -- when I can find her ... didn't realize Calicos blend in so well !    She does follow me around and also can be very chatty.

Simba & Harley - Adopted February 2010

I adopted Simba in Feb 2010. He is such an Angel along with Harley his brother.  I can assure you that Simba, Harley, along with Pikachu are the most loved and spoiled felines imaginable.

Annabelle Lea and Sweetpea - Adopted June 2012

Annabelle Lea (renamed Jolie) and Sweetpea (renamed Evangeline) are doing great, they have completed our family! They were named after the Cajun paintings by George Rodrigue.

Jolie had bladder surgery to get stones removed and is healed and only has one month of antibiotics to take. They are also on a special diet so that Jolie will not have the bladder problem again. They were a little overweight when we got them and they have both lost weight, Jolie is 32 lbs and Evangeline is 28 lbs.

They are very good dogs: they don't bark (only  when someone knocks on the door at night... which is a good thing) they don't beg for table food, they don't jump up on people (they do jump on the sofa, but that's fine with us), they don't bark at other dogs or cats either.

They love to relax all day and take naps on the sofa. They don't like to be in the back yard much, but they do like to put their leashes on and go for a walk with us around the neighborhood... sometimes they even jog with us for a block. They are great in the car and have been on a couple road trips to New Orleans and Lake Charles, where our extended family is.

They are inseparable and like to be by each other at all times, but they have the best individual personalities. Their favorite thing is to be around people and love attention and affection. We are so glad to have them both and can not imagine our lives without them.

Nike - Adopted June 2012

Nike is doing great. She's spayed and had all of her puppy shots.
We're starting obedience school tonight. I've attached a couple

Chloe - Adopted May 2012

Chloe is doing great!  We love her very much and we are so glad she is part of our family.

Shadow - Adopted May 2012

We are so happy we adopted Wesley. We changed his name to Shadow, actually. He's adjusted very well and has especially bonded with my son. We have two female labs and Shadow has fit right in - he loves to play and sleeps right on top of the girls and they oblige him.

Thanks for your help in finding such a good fit for our family.

Toby & Sassy - Adopted October 2011

I went on line one day looking for a Birman cat to keep company with my last Birman who was 12 years old.  I've had a number of Birmans, and Stella was the last one remaining.  I found mama Sassie and son Toby in Shreveport, LA., a long way from Decatur, AL, whose owner had died and who APAWSPETS did not want to separate.  To make a long story short, APAWSPETS brought them to me, I adopted them, and they have both adjusted well to Stella, my Maltese Allie, and me.  They are both very sweet and loving cats.  Toby especially likes to take human treats from my hand whenever I am giving treats to Allie.  I am so happy I found these two older cats and can give them a loving home in their later years.

Sammy - Adopted October 2010

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that Sammy is doing great! Sammy is a little maltipoo I adopted about a year ago from APAWS, when his name was Derby. He had been abandoned by previous owners when they moved. Lucky for him, the new owner of the house was an awesome lady who brought him to you guys. He looked more like a Sammy to me, and since I already had a bichon frise named Dino at home, I figured I would start my own rat pack! Sammy and Dino were instant best friends, and Sammy truly completed my family. Dino is the type of dog that just needs another dog to be balanced, and he made me crazy until we got Sammy. I learned over time that Sammy usually takes a while to warm up to new dogs, but that was not the case with his new brother.

Sammy and Dino's favorite activities are wrestling (loudly) and zooming around the house (loudly). I don't know who feels luckier for having found Sammy - Sammy, Dino, or me!

Thank you so much for all the work you do, and for helping me to find the missing piece of my family!
